Elementary and Middle School Education

How do I know if my child needs to be in special education?
If your child (over 3 years old) is experiencing academic problems at school or you suspect your child has a disability, help is available through the special education program in the public school system. Information about learning disabilities can be found at the NCLD Learning Disabilities Checklist. Read Taking the First Step Toward Special Education. You may request that your school district does an assessment for special education. View a Sample Letter Requesting an Evaluation. For more information on Special Education, read Understanding the Special Education Process and Navigating the Special Education Process.
